Cyclone Tauktae Relief

What's Happening and How to Help

With strong winds and torrential rains, Cyclone Tauktae hit Gujarat hard. The cyclone brought gusts of up to 210 kph (130 mph) that would put it on par with a Category 3 hurricane, one level below the IMD's super cyclone category. It made landfall on Saurashtra coast near Una in Gir Somnath district. Houses and animal shelters have been damaged, killing many animals and forcing 200 000 to be evacuated from their houses.

SGVP gurukul Droneshwar is located at one of the most impacted areas, and we are striving towards providing aid to the near by villages and people in the Gir reserve forest.

Currently, immediate healthcare, food and ration kit and temperorary shelter are needed. In the long term, shelter renovation for the people in need and livestock will be required.

Donations will be used for the relief and recovery efforts to provide food, healthcare, and other essential supplies to aid the people impacted by the cyclone Tauktae.

More then 300 Cement roof sheets were distributed to the people whose shelters were damaged in the cyclone. This will help them replace their rooves before monsoon season starts and protect their shelters against the heavy rain.

In addition to that, SGVP Canada distributed around 600 Steel roof sheets to the Kanek Nes in the Gir Reserve Forest Area as well. Our next step is to renovate the school in the same area.
